Cooper Clinic at Craig Ranch in McKinney is no more as it has closed its doors for good on June 12 due to a downturn in the economy, officials said on June 29.
The clinic closed because it did not have the demand for patients to keep the clinic open, said Amy George, Director of Communications at the Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas and McKinney. The Cooper Clinic at Craig Ranch employed five physicians, who have since relocated to the Cooper Clinic in Dallas, and also employed about 20 staff members, George said.
David Craig, President of Craig International said on June 29 that the Cooper Clinic is a fine organization and has been a valued tenant at Craig Ranch.
"We are disappointed to see them leave Craig Ranch, however we remain committed to sustaining family, health and wellness. Craig Ranch is a vibrant, 2,200 acre development with multiple venues and tenants, and a growing medical community, which includes the Surgery Center, OBGYN, the Professional Medical Plaza and, most recently, the Hospital at Craig Ranch - a $30 million state-of-the-art Cirrus Health facility, which is opening in September," Craig said.
The Cooper Clinic in McKinney is much smaller than the Cooper Clinic in Dallas, which is home to 23 physicians and has more than 100 staff members.
Even though the Cooper Clinic at Craig Ranch is closed, the Cooper Aerobics Center at Craig Ranch is still open.
"Memberships are growing daily and the Cooper Aerobics Center at Craig Ranch is doing very well," George said.
"We couldn't be more pleased with the Coopers," Craig added.
Cooper Clinic at Craig Ranch opened in October, 2007, when the national economic climate was quite different, George said.
The Cooper Clinic at Craig Ranch was part of the Cooper Life residential development that was originally slated to be built just south of the clinic and Cooper Aerobics Center at Craig Ranch. However, the Cooper Life development has been put on hold as Wellstone, the home builder experienced financial difficulties and a new home builder is being sought after to construct the homes in the proposed Cooper Life, George said.
Construction is currently continuing in Craig Ranch on the McKinney Dr Pepper StarCenter, which is adjacent to the Hospital at Craig Ranch, which is also currently under construction. Positions are currently being filled for the Hospital at Craig Ranch as a sign is posted near the property along Alma Road.
The 77-room La Quinta Inn, which can be seen from State Highway 121, is also currently under construction and should be completed in the next three to four months.
Craig in in escrow with two hotel suites to be built in Craig Ranch as well, Craig said.
