Councilwoman Gilda Garza, Curtis Rath and David Brooks file to be at-large candidates in May 9 city council election
Alonzo Tutson files for District 1 seat, becomes fourth candidate in that race, District 3 race remains uncontested

  McKinney City Councilwoman for District 1 Gilda Garza, Curtis Rath, who is married to McKinney Community Development Corporation board member Tracy Rath, and David Brooks, Chairman of the Independent Bank Group have filed to run as at-large council candidates in the upcoming May 9 council election.

Garza cannot run for re-election in the District 1 seat due to term limits as she has been on council in District 1 for two consecutive terms.
Downtown property owner and developer Don Day, McKinney businessman Randall Wilder and Lewisville PRIDE, or
promoting residential involvement, development and enthusiasm, member Maurice Malvern have filed to run for the District 1 seat.
Alonzo Tutson also filed either late Friday or on May 9 to be on the ballot in the District 1 race.

If
Day were elected to the District 1 seat his fiance, Linda McNeff, who is a downtown business owner would have to resign from serving on the McKinney Main Street Board of Directors. If Rath were elected to council his wife, Tracy Rath would have to resign from the MCDC Board of Directors.
As previously reported on McKinneyUpdate.com, Adriatica homebuilder George Fuller and former District 4 Council member and attorney Brian Loughmiller have filed to run for mayor. Current Mayor Bill Whitfield cannot run for re-election as mayor as he has exhausted his term limits for that seat.
David Brooks, Chairman of Independent Bank, has also filed as an at-large candidate.

Council member for District 3 Travis Ussery, who was recently elected in a special election, will be able to serve a regular three year council term as he is the only person who filed to be on the ballot in the District 3 race.
Filing ended at 5 p.m. on March 9 for people to be listed as candidates on the May 9 ballot.
