McKinney FFA Quiz team named District Champions
McKinney FFA members took the top honor at the District 5 FFA Leadership Development Events (LDE) on Nov. 15 by placing high in numerous competitions and the FFA Quiz Team was the district champion.
The Junior FFA Quiz team of Alex Neyrey, Taylor Carter, Domonick Lane and Meredith Houston placed 1st out of 17. The Junior FFA Quiz qualified for the Area 5 FFA Leadership Finals scheduled for Saturday, November 22nd at Crowley High School.
The McKinney FFA Radio Broadcasting team of Jeni Swim, Katelyn Moore and Alex Neyrey placed 12th out of 20.The Junior Chapter Conducting team of Alex Neyrey, president, Keli Jo Cummings, vice-president, Courtney Jeffries, secretary, Taylor Lewis, student advisor, Domonick Lane, treasurer, Meredith Houston, reporter, and Taylor Carter, sentinel, placed third in District 5. This team missed advancing to the area finals by one place.
Other McKinney FFA leadership teams competed as well and placed respectfully at the district competition. The Senior FFA Quiz team consists of Katelyn Moore, Jeni Swim, Keli Jo Cummings and Cheyenne Hall. Kassandra Shands-Cherry competed as Junior Creed speaker.
McKinney FFA members will continue their preparation for the Area 5 FFA Leadership Development Events scheduled for Saturday, November 22 at Crowley High School. All LDE teams must receive first or second place in their division to advance to the State FFA Leadership Finals to be held at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville on Dec. 6.
There were more than 400 FFA members from 35 school districts represented from Denton and Collin counties. Leadership Development Events focus on creating situations for members to demonstrate their abilities in public speaking, decision-making, communication and their knowledge of agriculture and the FFA organization. Team and individual events are used to reinforce what is taught in agricultural science classrooms.
