Travis Ussery, Jr. was sworn in as the City Council member for District 3 on Monday during a special meeting at the council chambers. Ussery was elected on Jan. 17 and beat Robert O'Donnell for the seat. He replaces former council member Bill Vitz who resigned due to health concerns.

The council also voted to amend an ordinance that prohibits appointing spouses to the city's board and commissions. The council may now appoint spouses of existing board and commission members to all city boards except the following boards: McKinney Economic Development Corporation, McKinney Airport Development Corporation, McKinney Community Development Corporation, McKinney Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Parks Board. The council did not appoint anyone to any boards, such as the MADC board which it recently tabled action on at the Jan. 20 council meeting.
